Loxophyllum verrucosum Genus: Ventral side with a hyaline border, reaching posterior end and bearing trichocysts; dorsal side with either similar trichocyst-border or with trichocyst-warts (Kudo, 1966).
Species: Cell body broad, 200-250 μm long, anterior obliquely truncated with peribuccal papillae, a flattened band present all round the periphery of the cell, sharply pointed bristles, macronucleus moniliform,a series of contractile vacuoles near dorsal surface (Carey, 1992).

L. setigerum Quennerstedt, 1867: Cell body elongated like a flattened cylinder, variable in size, 80-350 μm long, a flattened band with trichocysts present around the periphery of the cell, peribuccal papillae present, sharply pointed bristles emerge all round the cell, four spherical macronuclei, a series of contractile vacuoles near dorsal surface (Carey, 1992).

L. uninucleatum Kahl, 1928: Small; 60-80 μm long; upper surface domed, lower pleated; a flattened band on both sides of cell; trichocysts only in the oral region; a single macronucleus; a single contractile vacuole posterior (Carey, 1992).
