Vaginicola Genus: Lorica attached aborally by stalk; no operculum (Illustrated Guide, 1985). Similar to Vaginicola, but lorica stands on a short stalk; fresh or salt water (Kudo, 1966).

Vaginicola gigantea d'Udekum: Cell body 200 μm long (Kahl, 1930).

Vaginicola crystallina Ehrenberg, 1830: Cell body trumpet-shaped; 100-120 μm long, 10-15 μm wide; lorica transparent; each lorica contains two cells; cell surface smooth; peristomal disc slightly mounded; cytopharynx 1/5 - 1/8 of cell length; macronucleus rod-shaped, pararelled to cell body (Gensen-Doubutu Zukan, 1981). Cell body 200 μm long; lorica 150 μm long (Kahl, 1930).

Vaginicolla ingenita O.F. Müller, 1789: Cell body trumpet-shaped; 43-63 μm long, 7-30 μm wide; cytopharynx 1/4 - 1/5 of cell length; macronucleus band-shaped (Gensen-Doubutu Zukan, 1981).
