Genus: Without gelatinous sheath; filaments consist of many cells; rhizoid formed at one end (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).

Species: cell body cylindrical or somewhat laterally swelled, 6-12 μm long, 8-12 μm wide; a single chloroplast plate-like, parietal covering half of the cell wall, with a pyrenoid (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
