Tetraedron caudatum (Corda) Hansgirg var. caudatum: Unicells, planktonic; cell body flat, pentagonal in shape, 6-23 μm in diam.; four sides concave, remaining one deeply incised, sometimes narrowly V- or U-shaped; each corner rounded with a single, straight spine, 3-4 μm long (Photomicrographs of the Freshwater Algae, vol. 6, 1987).
