Mesotaenium Genus: Cell body ellipsoidal or short cylindrical; chloroplasts plate-like.
Species: Cell body cylindrical, tapered toward both rounded ends, 20-50 μm long, 10-15 μm wide, L/W=2.5-4; chloroplast irregularly wavy, with 2 pyrenoids (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977) .
