Species: Cells arranged to form pentagonal or hexagonal intercellular space, which result in large reticulated bag; cell body cylindrical in shape (up to 1 cm long, 200 μm in diam.), with many nuclei; chloroplasts reticulated with many pyrenoids (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
