Elakatothrix Species: Colonies of 2, 4, 8, 16 cells, enclosed by a fusiform gelatinous sheath; cell body fusiform narrowed into the pointed ends, 15-25 μm long, 3-4 μm wide; chloroplasts a single, parietal, with a single pyrenoid (Photomicrographs of the Freshwater Algae, 15: 35, 1995).
