Coenochloris Genus: Colony of 4, 8, 16 (sometimes more) cells, planktonic; 4 or 8 daughter colonies within a gelatinous sheath; remnants of mother cell wall present around the daughter cells; cell body spherical; a single chloroplast cup-shaped, with a pyrenoid (Guide book to the "Photomicrographs of the Freshwater Algae", 1998).

Coenochloris pyrenoidosa Korschikoff: Colonies of 4, 8, 16 cells, covered with a miculagenous envelop; cell body 2-9 micron in diam., globular in shape; chloroplasts cup-shaped with a pyrenoid; daughter cells 4 or 8; cup-like remnants of mother cell wall visible around the daughter cells (Photomicrog.
