Apiocystis Genus: Colonies pear-shaped or irregular bulbous in a gelatinous matrix; epiphytic on other algae by a narrowed stalk of the colony; cells evenly scattered at the periphery of the gel, each bearing a pair of long pseudocilia emerging outward (Photomicrographs of the Freshwater Algae, vol. 3, 1985). Colonies small, ovoid in shape, attached to other substrates at one end (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
Species: cell body spherical, 6-8 μm in diam.; a single chloroplast cup-shaped with a pyrenoid (Photomicrographs of the Freshwater Algae, vol. 3, 1985).
