Family: Unicells; cell wall present; two flagella (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
Genus: Similar to Chlamydomonas, but pyrenoids absent.
Cell body ellipsoidal, spherical, ovoid, cylindrical, or spindle-shaped; cellwall thin or thick; papilla present/absent; two flagella emerging from one point; chloroplast essentially cup-shaped or bowl-shaped, in some cases, showing various shapes; pyrenoids absent; stigma present/absent; nucleus mostly located at the center of the cell; two or rarely one contractile vacoules apical (Süßwasserflora von Mitteleuropa 9, Chlorophyta I, 1983).
