Species: Cell body 31-50 μm long, 9-14 μm wide, 15-24 μm thick; laterally compressed, posterior end wide and rudder-like; chloroplasts 1(-2) per cell; without pyrenoid; refringent bodies 2 in a dorsal position roughly mid-way along cell; nucleus posterior (John et al. eds. 2002).

C. ovata: 16-20 μm long, 8-10 μm wide; two almost equal flagella; color, dark umber to dark brown (Illustrated Guide, 1985). 20-30 micron; reservoir distinct; yellow to brownish-green chloroplasts; starch granules (How to know the protozoa, 1979). 30-60 μm long, 20-25 μm wide (Kudo, 1966).
