Litonotus dusarti Dragesco, 1960: Similar in form to L. anguilla, but the mid-body region is enlarged; 135-200 μm long; a neck and oral region lined with trichocysts; a pointed tail; a single contractile vacuole; two macronuclei with an intercalated micronuleus (Carey, 1992).

Litonotus anguilla (Kahl, 1930): Elongate with a long curving neck region and pointed tail; 150-160 μm long; longitudila kineties stretch from pole to pole; single contractile vacuole; a macronucleus consisting of two parts with an intercalated micronuleus (Carey, 1992).
