The wild strain of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico was supplied through Professor D. A. Austin's aid.
There is a reddish tinge in the hypocotyls. Individual variation in color is big in the openings of the cotyledonary lobes and in the color of the lower surface of the cotyledons. There are hardly any epidermal hairs on the hypocotyl, and slightly more on the cotyledonary petiole. The leaf is three-pointed and of the main wide lobe type. The plant is vigorous. In Shizuoka-city, blooming under natural conditions begins at the beginning of October. The corolla is blue tinged with purple, the flower tube is white, and the flower is about 6 cm in diameter and 6 cm in length. A distinguishing characteristic is that the light-brown epidermal hairs grow thick to the calyx. The flower-opening time is normal. Generally one flower is observed per peduncle, but there can be two.
