This is an amphidiploid plant (number of chromosomes 2n=58) produced by Sloter in 1908 by crossing Ipomoea quamoclit with Ipomoea coccinea. The degree of cuts in a leaf is not so strong as it is with Ipomoea quamoclit. Both the flowers and leaves are a bit large.
