It is thought to have originated in north Africa, and is distributed widely across tropical Asia and Africa. The author observed it growing thickly and very well in Southeast Asia. It climbs and clings to trees in Hong Kong. Leaves are deeply divided and five-pointed. As this resembles a maple (Momizi in Japanese), it is named Momizihirugao.
