Higezakibotan, Feathering and duplicated (dp)

Duplicated flowers of Ipomoea nil have played a central role in flower variations from the Edo era, and a strain of Feathering in Ipomoea purpurea has beautiful double flowers in which the petals deeply cut to the bottom of the flower (slides 175, 176). It was expected that more variable double flowers would be produced if both flowers could be combined together. The author had brought up the Feathering duplicated flower with great labor by 1982. The expected flower bloomed in some individuals, though a stable strain having Feathering duplicated flowers was not obtained, as the degree of Feathering often became weak in the descendants of hybrids.
