When a flower is pollinated, a pollen tube grows and arrives at an ovule in an ovary in the basal part of a pistil. Finally, fertilization (conjugation of an egg cell in an ovule and a sperm nucleus from a pollen) occurs there.
When a flower withers up, it means that fertilization of the flower is complete.

You can see that the fertilized ovary grows and swells out for 1 week.

At about 2 weeks after fertilization, the ovary has grown very large.
We call this a fruit.
