Next, what shape are the leaves that come out?

Three to four days after the cotyledons open, you will see a small pointed bud between two cotyledonary stalks. This is a leaf bud (vegetative bud). Let's watch how a leaf appears from the bud and grows.
When the vegetative bud grows, it produces stems and leaves. The stem grows longer, and is straight, until there are 5 or 6 leaves.

1 By this time, the cotyledon is bigger, and its surface faces the sunlight. The photograph on the right shows a side view of a leaf bud that came out between the cotyledons.

2 From the leaf bud between the cotyledons, the first leaf appeared. This shows the condition about 1 week after the first leaf appears. At the base of the first leaf, the second leaf begins to grow.
3 The first leaf becomes grown fully. The second leaf has gotten big, too.
